Description

A one sided, fleeced, self-adhesive tanking tape for the permanent sealing of elastic joints beneath tiles. Can be used for internal and external applications in wet based areas including showers, bathrooms and kitchens.

Application:

Cut the Butyl Sealing Tape to the required length and remove the silicone strip on the back before pressing firmly onto the surface provided. For maximum adhesion, the Butyl Sealing Tape must be correctly positioned the first time it is attached to the surface as additional corrections to the sealing tape will result in a weaker bond to the surface.

When applying the Butyl Tape, ensure there is a tape overlay of 5cm.

I used to hate messing around with wet tanking paste to stick tapes down

I used to hate messing around with wet tanking paste to stick tapes down. This butyl tape is a game changer. Just peel the back off and stick it over the joint. Done in seconds.

Be warned—when they say high adhesion, they mean it!

Be warned—when they say high adhesion, they mean it! Once this touches the wall, it isn't coming off. Great peace of mind knowing the seal is that strong.

Used this to seal the joints between plywood sheets on a floor before tiling

Used this to seal the joints between plywood sheets on a floor before tiling. It's flexible enough to handle the movement and stuck down flat immediately.

I used it to seal the gap between a shower tray and the wall

I used it to seal the gap between a shower tray and the wall. The flexibility meant I could get a really tight 90-degree corner without it springing back.

Tanking can be a messy job, but this tape keeps it clean

Tanking can be a messy job, but this tape keeps it clean. No brushes, no bucket of gloop. Just a pair of scissors and you're away.

The fleece on top is really strong

The fleece on top is really strong. It took the tile adhesive well and didn't tear when I was troweling over it.

It costs a bit more than the non-adhesive tape, but the time it saves me on site is worth double the price. I can start tiling straight away.

Needed a quick seal for an external corner joint

Needed a quick seal for an external corner joint. Because it's suitable for exterior use, it was perfect. Weatherproofed the joint instantly.

Make sure you get it right the first time like it says

Make sure you get it right the first time like it says. I tried to pull a bit off to move it and it damaged the plasterboard paper—that's how strong the glue is!

Your Questions, Answered

No. That is the main benefit of Brit Self-Adhesive Butyl Tape. It has a peel-off silicone strip on the back. You simply remove the strip and press it firmly onto the surface—no separate liquid adhesive is required to fix it.

You should try to avoid this. The tape must be correctly positioned the first time. Because the butyl adhesion is so strong, trying to peel it off to correct it will result in a weaker bond or damage to the substrate. Measure twice, stick once!

It features High Adhesion to Most Substrates, including plasterboard, cement board, timber, plywood, and concrete. Ensure the surface is dust-free and dry before applying.

Yes. It is specified for both Interior & Exterior Use. It is ideal for sealing joints on balconies or terraces as well as internal showers and kitchens.

When joining two pieces of tape or running along a continuous joint, ensure there is a tape overlay of 5cm. This overlap ensures water cannot find a path through the join.

Yes. Because there is no "drying time" for the adhesive backing (unlike wet systems), you can proceed to apply your tanking compound or tile adhesive over the fleeced surface immediately after fixing.
