Built for Problem Substrates & Maximum Rigidity

This highly rigid orange membrane is the ultimate problem solver for difficult tiling projects. We have engineered it to neutralize lateral movement stresses between the substrate and the tile, effectively preventing cracks. It allows you to tile directly onto "green" (fresh) screeds, asphalt, and timber without the need for thick, heavy marine plywood.

Words From Our Valued Clients

4.8/5

Essential for green screeds

We had a job where the screed wasn't fully cured, but the deadline was tight. This mat manages the moisture vapour so we could tile immediately. Lifesaver.

Rapid Renovations Ltd

Great for natural stone

Stone tiles crack easily if the floor moves even a millimetre. I always put this orange mat down first. It isolates the movement perfectly.

Stone & Ceramic Studio

Used on an asphalt floor

Old 1970s house with an asphalt floor. Nothing sticks to it usually. We bedded this mat down and tiled over it. 6 months later, perfect adhesion.

M. Thompson

Better value than the big brand

You know the famous orange brand I mean... this Brit matting is identical in quality but much better on price. The plastic feels just as rigid.

Davey S.

Perfect for underfloor heating

The air channels in the mat help distribute the heat evenly from the screed below. No hot spots, just nice warm tiles.

HeatWise Engineers

Waterproofed my wet room

I used the 30m roll to do a large wet room floor. Once you tape the joints, it's a completely watertight tanking layer.

AquaPros UK

Easy to install

Cut it to size, spread the adhesive with a 4mm trowel, and push it down. It really is that simple. The fleece grabs the glue instantly.

Jenny W.

Solves the timber floor problem

Tiling on floorboards is always risky. This mat absorbs the vibration and bounce. I haven't had a single callback for cracked grout since using it.

T. Harrison

Great for outdoor patios

Used it on a concrete balcony before laying porcelain slabs. It stops the freeze/thaw expansion from popping the tiles.

GreenScapes Construction

Cuts cleanly

Some mats shatter when you cut them. This cuts cleanly with a utility knife, making it easy to fit around toilet pipes and doorways.

L. Gallagher

Reliable bonding

The fleece on the back is thick and anchors really well into the S1 adhesive. You can feel the mechanical bond forming.

Brit Adhesives products are always reliable

Brit Adhesives products are always reliable. This tape is thick, substantial, and feels like professional kit.

Your Questions, Answered

Traditionally, tilers used 15-18mm marine plywood to stiffen timber floors to prevent tiles cracking. Brit Crack Matting achieves the same stability by "decoupling" (separating) the tile from the wood. This saves you height (it's much thinner than wood), weight, and the cost of lumber.

Yes. This is a key benefit. The mat features air channels that allow moisture vapour from uncured screed to escape sideways (Vapour Management), meaning you don't have to wait months for the screed to dry before tiling.

Yes, the polyethylene material is waterproof. If you seal the seams between the mats with Brit Waterproofing Tape, it creates a fully watertight floor, making it ideal for wet rooms and bathrooms.

You should apply a 4mm bed of flexible tile adhesive (like BritFlex S1) to the substrate using a 4mm Square Notched Trowel. Ensure the anchoring fleece on the underside is fully embedded in the adhesive.

Yes. It is suitable for Interior and Exterior Use. It is particularly useful for terraces and balconies where thermal expansion (sun/frost) causes significant movement in the substrate.

It is designed for "problematic" substrates that ordinary adhesive can't handle, including floorboards, gypsum floors, green screeds, metal surfaces, and asphalt.
